LEEK WOOTTON FC
UNDER 11 Lions 24/25
For the 2022/23 Season Leek Wootton U9 Lions play in the second division of The Mid-Warwickshire League. Although they are an U9 team they are predominantly U8 and are flying playing against teams that are both older and stronger. Playing against teams who are physically bigger for the last two seasons means that, to be successful, they need to be confident with the ball and play quickly as a team. It’s safe to say this has resulted in them being a hardworking side that plays a style of football way beyond their years. Mid-way through this season they had some bittersweet news that goalkeeper, Leon, signed for Coventry City Academy. Obviously, everyone was delighted for Leon to have such a great opportunity, but it meant that other players had to step up and learn how to play in goal. This is a good learning experience for them though, as in today’s game, it is vital that goal keepers are confident and competent with their feet as well as their hands. With more hard work and dedication, the team are now taking it turns donning the gloves and are not only developing really well, but thoroughly enjoying the challenge.
